Contestant Interviews

Counts as 25% of the Total Score

Individual 10-minute interview with our panel of judges. There are typically five to seven judges on a panel. Contestants are questioned on their background, educational and career goals, opinions on current events, social issues and pop culture, and their interests, hobbies and co-curricular activities. Contestants are judged on communication skills, the ability to convey her opinion, personality, and confidence.

Wardrobe
Daytime Dress or Suit.  Strive for a professional look that reflects your personality. Consider that you are applying for a job and it is important to advocate for yourself. Choose attire that compliments your position.  Remember that you will only have one first impression.


Talent

Counts as 30% of the Total Score

A 90-second routine of your own choosing. From vocal performance to ventriloquism, any solo act that demonstrates your ability to captivate an audience. Judges will look for a combination of skill, excitement, and entertainment value.


Lifestyle & Fitness in Swimwear

Counts as 10% of the Total Score

Miss America began as a swimsuit contest on the Atlantic City Board Walk. Today, we use this phase of competition to evaluate your physical health and confidence.

Wardrobe
May be a one or two piece swimsuit.  Choose what you feel flatters you and your body type. Remember that the swimsuit competition is about physical fitness, confidence, attractiveness, and presence.  Shoe selection is your choice; it is suggested that you choose a strappy sandal or shoe that is attractive and comfortable. Make sure your walk is not affected by your shoe choice.  The Pageant reserves the right to reject any style swimsuit that is inappropriate or offensive.


Counts as 15% of the Total Score

Briefly model a formal gown of your choosing. Contestants are judged on their sense of style, elegance, and the overall sense of joy they bring to their beauty.

Wardrobe
This is the contestant's opportunity to grace the stage with contemporary style, beauty, and class.  The selection for evening wear should be reflective of today's styles and showcase the contestant's personal flair in a sophisticated setting.

Evening Wear


Counts as 20% of the Total Score

Contestants will be asked to answer a brief question relating to current events, the organization, or herself. Communication skills and comfort under pressure are evaluated.

This is the contestant's opportunity to grace the stage with contemporary style, beauty and class.  The selection for evening wear should be reflective of today's styles and showcase the contestant's personal flair in a sophisticated setting.
